An original oil painting by Cornish Artist John Piper. Piper is a member of The Penwith Society of Artists which was created in 1949 by Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, he is the past chairman of The Newlyn Art Society. Patrick Heron was a major influence in the early sixties with his trademark use of vibrant and contrasting colour. It is precisely the strong and atmospheric use of colour that is evident in all Pipers work. The re-occurring fisherman’s and miners’ cottages as a subject provides infinite possibilities to explore colour, texture, seasons, light and composition.
